Getting Started with ALVAO Asset Management

Running the Console For the First Time

Run the Console from Start – ALVAO Asset Management – Console. When you run the Console for the first time, the Database Manager window will open. Select the AssetSampleEnu database (other languages are included with different language extension) and click on Open. Login to the database as the "admin" user. Leave the Password field blank.

MS SQL Server Express Edition must be installed on the machine to open the sample database. If your SQL Server is installed on a different machine in your network or if you don't have the Express Edition, you can connect to the sample database manually: copy the files AssetSampleEnu.bak from the subfolder Data to the storage folder (where your other database data files are stored) on the computer running your SQL Server. The AssetSample database can be then manually connected e.g. using MS SQL Management Studio and the "attach" command. Then, add the sample database to the list in the Database Manager window with the Add more... button. - Other (SQL Server,...) - Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server. Then go to the Connection tab where you can identify your SQL Server, login information and the name of the AssetSample database.

Tip:

If you later create your own database, you can re-open the sample database anytime in the File – Database menu. You can use a new database to experiment with the Console with up to 5 machines without providing the Activation Key.

Note:

You can work with multiple databases in the Console. However, please remember that only a single database can be open at a time. If you run the Console, the Logon window may open first where you can log in to the previously used database. If you want to open a different database, click on the Cancel button in the Logon window. The Database Manager window will open where you can select another database. You can also open a different database from the Console later from the File – Database menu.
